Meet Janna Splitter. Raised near Sterling, Kansas, Janna has farming in her blood. She’s a farmer’s daughter, farmer’s wife and farm mom. Janna and her husband Matt met as kids in the 4-H program, carrying their passion for agriculture with them to study at Kansas State University. She graduated in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural communications and journalism with a minor in leadership studies.

At the ages of 25 and 23, respectively, Matt and Janna became the sole owners and operators of Matt’s fifth-generation family farm near Lyons. Providing extensive custom-farming services, they have more than tripled the size of their operation over the past six years. They grow corn, soybeans, wheat and sorghum for their own farm and their clients’ farms.

When not busy chasing their two little girls around, Janna manages the farm’s payroll and taxes, as well as provides meals during harvest and other busy seasons. The Splitters recently moved to the country where they enjoy being more involved in the day-to-day activities of the farming operation. Janna also enjoys baking, writing, photography, arts and crafts, travel and reading.

Janna became a CommonGround Kansas volunteer in Fall 2016. She is passionate about sharing facts, not fear, to allow consumers to make their own informed food choices and sharing how farmers prioritize safety and sustainability to produce safe, nutritious food.
