We love following food blogs. Scrolling through Pinterest’s never-ending feed of food photos so gorgeous you wish you could reach through your computer screen and take a bite. Testing out recipes in our own kitchens. Sometimes we’re so inspired we take to our blogs to share some of our own recipes.
So, you can imagine how it was extra special to meet some of our favorite food bloggers from around the Midwest Oct. 24. CommonGround volunteers from Kansas and Missouri spent the day chatting with attendees and answering their food and farming questions at the first-ever Chopped Conference in downtown Kansas City.
At the hip River Market Event Place, food bloggers gathered to talk strategy, share successes and failures, and build relationships while hearing from some noteworthy personalities in the food blogging world.
Fueling the Food Conversation
Attendees heard from registered dietitian Carolyn O’Neil, who shares her nutrition expertise as “The Lady of the Refrigerator” on the Food Network, as well as popular food bloggers John and Dana Shultz of Minimalist Baker, Lindsay and Bjork Ostrom of Pinch of Yum and many others. Topics covered everything from growing your presence on Instagram, decoding blog stats, working with brands, time management and taking your blog from good to great.
We were especially excited to support the conference along with our friends from Kansas Farm Bureau and BestFoodFacts.org, one of our favorite sites to direct folks to for science-based information from experts in the food industry.
As always, if you have questions about how your food is raised, ask a farmer! We’re thrilled to share how we grow crops and raise livestock on our Kansas and Missouri farms.
